Parasites

Parasites

Parasites are everywhere and a threat to our health especially when they inhabit the colon (bowel). For effective control combine oil of oregano (super strength oregano in gelcapsules is best) with castor oil capsules that have been frozen. This two pronged attack not only suffocates parasites but purges any related bacteria and fungal infection that often accompanies them through the digestive tract.

Pure Omega

PureOmega

As about 20% of the dry weight of the brain and some 30% of the eye retina are made from long-chain fatty acids, which are crucial for most processes of our life, taking a balanced, branded supplement therefore makes sense for everyone, even into middle age and beyond, to support brain and eye function and vascular health. For the best vegetarian source of EPA the new oil PureOmega from North American Herb & Spice, is a real step in the right nutritional direction:  better than linseed/flax oil and very bio-available.Nikki Dake; Practitioner and journalist Cyprus Â

Total Body Power

Total Body Power

I read with interest a snippet in The Daily Telegraph about how blueberries may lead to a new treatment for Alzheimer’s, according to researchers in Reading University. The proof? The scientists found that the equivalent of a punnet a day of the magic fruit significantly improved the memory of rats.  Forgive me but I do wonder how on earth they got the rats to eat them!  I suspect that the Reading scientists used a powerful liquid extraction akin to the one I take: Total Body Power, a certified wild, non-GMO, raw formula rich in live enzymes. A natural source of flavonoids, the liquid is uncooked in order to preserve the raw nutrients of this unique mix of eight wild berries including blueberry. Berries have a variety of applications, dependent on the specific berry’s polyphenol makeup so a daily dose of 20 drops makes sense in today’s world of stress and active living in the fast lane. Tastes brilliant, especially with yoghurt!Nikki Dake; Practitioner and journalist Cyprus Sunday Mail July 27th to August 2nd 2008

‘Eat Right 4 Your Metabolic Type’

‘Eat Right 4 Your Metabolic Type’

Back in March 2008, I met Dr Cass Ingram at the Brighton Natural Products Show and the seminar that launched his latest book ‘Eat Right 4 Your Metabolic Type’ was packed out.  An inspirational speaker at the best of times, when engaged on explaining this latest research he was dynamic. I bought the book forthwith!Sadly, the text itself isn’t as lively in presentation but clearly outlines how to identify each metabolic type. This writes Dr Ingram, ‘Is your secret to better health’.  Find your type to tailor your therapy - food, herbs and concentrates, wild berries, greens and spices. Includes diagrams and self-tests, plus recipes and remedies.’

Fifty percent of the book details the factors governing each metabolic type plus information about the function and balance of the various endocrine systems.  Nutrition is one of Dr Ingram’s strongest points and, in the section ‘strengthening your metabolism’, he deals exclusively with the importance of good nutrition and why humans need essential fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins and proteins.  All good stuff!

Acitan

Acitan

As with all gastric complaints, even chronic diverticulosis and Crohns disease, dietary fibre is the modern imperative. Insoluble fibre in the form of banana extract (Acitan) manufactured from the non-fruiting stem of the banana plant has been extensively researched in a wide variety of gastro-intestinal diseases including idiopathic ulcerative colitis and irritable colon as well as IBS. The fibre content in banana extract has been found to be particularly beneficial in regulating peristalsis and, as it also has anti-microbial properties, Acitan can actively kill intestinal bacteria. Additionally, it’s an important natural source of minerals including iron, manganese, selenium, copper and zinc - all vital in the production of the mucous that protects the lower gastric membranes. There’s no other supplement that so effectively attacks gut problems as Acitan’s three-pronged action. You won’t find Acitan powder anywhere except on line - Cuba is currently the only source and that’s where much of the research has been done.Nikki Dake; Practitioner and journalist Cyprus Sunday Mail May 4-10th 2008

Germa-clenz

Germa-clenz

When flying, sterilise everything you come into contact with airside. I never travel without Germa-clenz, an anti-microbial edible spice oil spray to use on crockery, cutlery, the foldaway table, armrests and even the air around your travel-space.   Someone coughs - I spray Germa-clenz direct into my mouth; I clean my hands with it rather than touch taps.  People may think I have compulsive obsessive disorder, but fine - I don’t catch my neighbour’s cold or the airline’s tummy bug.Nikki Dake; Practitioner and journalist Cyprus Sunday Mail April 6th 2008

Castor Oil

Castor Oil

Castor Oil!  The terrible stuff forced on generations by their mothers and school matrons for sluggish bowels. The best way to take it is frozen and it’s one of the finest bowel cleaners going.  Frozen, the dire taste is lost as the capsule melts in the caecum (intestine) and then it goes to work, loosening old food and faecal matter: expect lots of action in the bowel department afterwards!Nikki Dake; Practitioner and journalist Cyprus Sunday Mail Feb 3-9 2008

Thyroset

Thyroset

Metabolic rate is, of course key to whether people put on weight at the drop of a hat or stay annoyingly skinny no matter what.  Metabolic rate is regulated by the thyroid, which in fact controls the metabolism of every cell and organ, so it’s critical for everyone to maintain super thyroid function, something which declines with age, stress and chemical exposure. Many naturopaths know that it’s possible to boost thyroid function naturally by feeding it the crucial elements it needs: the amino acid L. Tyrosine and nutrient-rich kelp.   Kelp is seaweed and it’s important that any kelp source is free of the metal and petroleum contaminants found in many of our seas.  That’s why I take and recommend Thyroset, not only because its kelp is harvested from Alaska, but also because it’s formulated with L. Tyrosine, to make it a real thyroid superfood.  It’s a supplement you can almost FEEL giving you extra energy
